Look for peppermint flavored marshmallows this holiday season to make these crunchy treats. Fruit-flavored marshmallows are often available in the Spring. Be on the lookout for chocolate, vanilla, cinnamon, maple, or special shapes. Or use regular marshmallows year-round. They all have a great crunchy appeal for kids. Use them in trail mixes and candy clusters, too, for an unexpected surprise.
DEHYDRATING MARSHMALLOWS (Pantry Cooking with Home Preserved Foods)
Spread miniature marshmallows in a single layer on dehydrator trays. Dry at 125o for 24 to 36 hours or until dry and somewhat crisp. Marshmallows will not shrink in size but will be dry and crisp when cooled.
Store in an airtight container. For long-term storage, use Dry Heat Processing or a vacuum sealer to seal them in canning jars.
